One of the wealthiest counties in the U.S., DuPage County is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The combination of its residents and those of Cook County accounts for half of the total population of the state of Illinois. The DuPage County seat is in Wheaton.

Like the DuPage River, the county was named after a French trapper who settled on the banks of the river in the late 1700s. Modern–day DuPage County has a diversified economy and is home to the Illinois Research and Technology Corridor, which includes the regional or national headquarters of companies such as Microsoft, B.P., Alcatel–Lucent, and Tellabs.
